CIGAR BOX ART CHALLENGE
Have you ever looked at a piece of art and thought “I could do that?” Smoky Valley Arts & Folklife is giving artists, crafters, and everyone the opportunity to prove that anyone can create art through the Cigar Box Art Challenge.
The art challenge is open to anyone, of any age, interested in supporting SVAFC and begins Sept. 1. The boxes are free to SVAFC members and $10 for nonmembers. There is a limited number of boxes available and will be distributed on a first-come first-serve basis.
The art boxes can take any form, including painting, drawing, sculpture, collage, or assemblage. There are no guidelines or restrictions. Let your creativity be your guide, but keep in mind that they will comprise a public art exhibition in January. Please return the completed art boxes ready to display, whether it’s wall hung or free standing.
At the end of the exhibition, the boxes will be auctioned off as a fundraiser for SVAFC on Sunday, Jan. 31, 2027. Additionally, anyone who becomes a member or renews their membership at SVAFC during the Cigar Box Challenge, Sept. 1 through Jan. 31, will be entered to win one of the unique art boxes.
The boxes can be picked up at SVAFC, 114 ½ S. Main St, in Lindsborg through Nov. 29, during regular open hours or by appointment. Completed art boxes should be returned to SVAFC no later than Dec. 20 and will be displayed at SVAFC from Jan. 2 through Jan. 31, 2027.
The art challenge is designed to provide opportunities for artists of all skill levels while supporting the Smoky Valley Arts & Folklife Center. All proceeds will go to SVAFC for operating expenses, programming, and special projects.
